RUSS AND LISA SHOW 1/27/12 HR 4

    01/27/2012

Hi yeah wrapping the week. Friday morning news radio WORT. Russ castle at your service to fight the cold. But maybe I get better over the weekend advantage talk line numbers that rebuilt 2329673. Spartanburg. 5749673. These prominent black text line is 71307. If you still use email might email address is act. Entercom.com. That's our USS. At the end TE RC OM. Dot com. like talk about is fine. What they wanna talk about here. We had a story is all we have heard for quite awhile now on the especially from Obama. Is that he. He really. He just wants It's only wants. He wants a fairer America. When it comes to taxes. He wants people to pay a fair fair share. You know we don't know if you pay attention. Obama's version of Is taking from those who have been successful. And giving it to other people who maybe have not been as successful. Redistribution of wealth it you know you what are you want to call. So it's it's it's fascinating entered take on this concept of what is fair we talked about it before but. There's also tax season. You know most people if you haven't gotten your W two you know they have to be out by next And in on this whole thing of fairness and I shared with you an investor's business daily article talking about you know the president talks about fairness that. In a new report which is required by law. From the virus. Done that guess what 36. A president Obama's executive office staff both the country 833970. Dollars in back taxes. So as I mean deep rooted in these people working for mr. fair share apparently haven't paid any share let alone their fair share. Gates. Was asked about this. I don't wanna focus on this just permitted here. Second richest man in in the world. Believes that he should pay more taxes. Bill Gates Microsoft chairman. Speaking to Fox. Business network's Liz claimant. Even as the economy improves and you end the wars you're going to have to raise taxes and certainly whatever form it takes and I'm not an expert on this the rich should bear a larger increase than the rest. Now I I wonder how many people. Seriously agree with that. That the rich should pay more. Now my motto is know what you believe and why you believe it. If you believe. This bill just asserted that the rich should pay more. What is based on. Here's more of gates. But that alone won't close that deficit. Particularly you wanna keep investment in the future strong if you wanna help the world's poorest if you wanna keep doing scientific research if you fund. Educational advances. We revenue is going to have to be it a big part of it. Yes there are some things that can be tuned it in that bond. Requirement for government to help in that the porous funding education. You know you've got to raise a lot of revenue. The fact that. He says that it to me. He's just really really inched. anybody knows about revenue to Bill Gates. But. Folks why would assert it mr. gates were sitting here. How much revenue is enough for the federal government. How much they have to take. To accomplish that laundry list of things he just laid out. What what it what is fair about what he just laid out. What is right about what he just what what what is moral about what he just laid. As I've often said to try to simplify this why. Are other people more entitled to my money him. their work hard and play by the rules. But in taxes. A lot of people don't database that a big deal here this weekend in this most people listen I'm not Iran exports. All this clambering over that Romney made twenty million dollars higher Newt Gingrich say it by doing nothing. By doing nothing. The who's really engaged in class warfare here. But you know the fact that he paid 3000003. Million out of twenty and he gave million and half whatever to charity. Compare that to you know Obama. And and and Biden I think 369 dollars to charity but the Democrats care so much more than anybody else. But what was out of left out of that argument or what's conveniently left out of the argument as most of Romney's income was investment and which is another whole part of this. Do you realize how many people do you think realize. That if you mix some money. And then you choose to invest that money. The money you made originally is already been taxed. Why should why should be taxed again. What's clear about that what you liked about them about How many times should money be taxed. There's an article this morning and state newspaper written by Stephen all of marker of the Associated Press. Entitled why is investment income tax less than wages. I mean seriously is that is that a serious question. Simple answer is because it's already been tracked. And if you it's going to be taxed again. He stars why do Mitt Romney and other wealthy investors pay lower taxes on the income they make from investments. Then they would if they earned their millions from wages. Because congress and the tax code has long treated and investment. More favorably than labor. Seeing it as an engine for economic growth that benefits everybody okay. President Obama and the Occupy Wall Street movement are challenging that value system. Raising volatile election issues of equity fairness. And Romney's tax returns. The Republican presidential candidates taxes. Were so low. Because the vast majority of his income came from investments the US has long had. A progressive income tax in which people who make money pay taxes at a higher rate than those who pay less but for almost as long. The US Texas on the golf capital gains and you hear that brings a lot of missed a profit from selling an investment at a lower rate than wagers. William McBride economists at the conservative Tax Foundation quote two ways to look at it there's a moral argument. And an economic growth argument and they both to lower taxes on capital gains McBride saying it's unfair to tax income more than once. Capital gains or tax multiple times. If you got the original investment from wages that money was tax if you stock your own no gains value if if if the stock you won't gains value. Because the company you invested in makes a profit those profits tax and corporate tax in effect company issues dividends those are taxed again as well. So lots of people are double tax triple tax says chuck Marr director of federal tax policy for the liberal Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Quote check out your last paste. There's income tax and then there's cable tax or your double tax true. Any when you buy something you probably yourself tax under current law. Top tax rate is 15% on qualified dividend of long term capital gains profits from selling assets have been held for at least a year. The top income tax rate on wages 35% though that that applies only taxable income above 388350. Dollars of congress. Started taxing capital gains at a lower rate than wages following World War I. The concern then was that high taxes on capital gains. Actually reduced revenue because people would simply hold on to their investments. At the time however at the top step and tax rate on wages. Was a whopping 73%. So in 1922 congress lowered the top capital gains rate to twelve and a half percent. Last until 1934. And for much of the next seven years top tax rate on long term capital gains was between 2030%. Was the size 39 point 9% in the late seventies. But never has been below 20% until 2003. When congress passed this gradual reduction to the current rates as a whole history lesson. The liberals and even some moderates argue. That lower taxes on investments are giveaway to the rich. Last year two thirds of all capital gains would people making more than a million. Only 5% of capital gains people making less than a 100000. In only 13% went to people making less than 200000. Back to and I'm a liberal person I believe strongly that the wealthy should pay more than the working poor Obama courses taken this argument. Though his budget proposals that called for only small increases on capital gains and dividends. To a top rate of 20%. But he's developed this Buffett rule here that named after Warren Buffett. Which is rich people shouldn't pay taxes at a lower rate than their secretaries. So Obama's head of the state of the union this we give people making more than a million should pay at least 30%. Of their income in taxes and they said now you call this class warfare you want. But asking a billionaire to pay at least as much as secretary taxes most Americans would call it common sense and of course that's you know that's slick politics. Limit let me clue yet on something Warren Buffett's secretary does not pay less in taxes than Warren Buffett. Say they like to mix up. The tax rate verses what is actually paid in taxes. So don't talk about this. How many times should money be taxed what is fair Bill Gates says well why or We're gonna give one mckinny's investments. The you're gonna have to spread more and anything's that's the right thing to do wolves atlas and build nothing stopping you from Brighton a big old check. You really believe in I don't you and your wife Melinda have your foundation and you give a lot of money away will got a question. But this assertion. You know dead dead dead. We we have in the name of fairness. Can go out and taken taken taken taken given away and it re distributed. Has just got to be understood and has got to be rejected it in my opinion. So I like to know what is. Worried 97 team Larry which across in North Carolina hi Sandra. I know that that's one thing if you don't mind service citizenship issue sure. Barack Obama why a British citizen at Barack Obama It's anybody's why it's anybody's guess yeah. He wasn't on. an Indonesian when his mother Mary in this Indonesia so he can do earn citizenship. Indonesian that the plan would not a lap that collect his mother you know our person Americans that he should correct. But it anesthesia. Pain in the knee and it. The question at what point. When it came back he can Why ever changed. That's the question. Well. Not he went to Pakistan. Is college buddy did not pan American. Passport when he did American citizens were not a line out and Pakistan. That correct accurate question. What it in the Indonesian passport what as a British passport. And so this. Risk so the Supreme Court ultimately. If they decide to take it who's gonna have to settle this. Because the Supreme Court has been kind of vague on this again. If you look at the congressional research service. And they say that they've looked at the scholarly cool and historical opinion about this. That. What natural born means according to the constitution. Is at birth or by Amber's including any child born in the United States. Which Obama claims that he was born in Hawaii. It also at the well that he he thinks he It would also include the children of the US citizens born abroad. The children all of US citizens born abroad yet because McCain it was born in the Panama Canal. And those born of one citizen parent. Who has met US residency requirements. That's what they say it. So Obama is gonna stick to it that he was born. Again go back to the phrase. US citizenship at birth or by He's gonna claim yep I was born in Hawaii. I got immersive certificate program even those it was a it was a fraud and it was doctored and all that stuff. What he's. There's a lot of here and there questions. Check it ten put out of the patent that kite is that and put the court in my welcome back. Let's not buy into that theory because he was ordered by this judge down in Georgia they hearing was yesterday and Obama neither his lawyers that they need a one showed up. thank you would think it would be real easy. If he's got the proof he says he's got. To just not about to knock it out of the park this can say here it is. You got me questions I gotta go I gotta go campaign you know Michaud also another vacation gotta go and considers that that would be all but we said this. Years ago now when this first came up. The supreme course can have this settled as if they decide you know that to take it up. And who knows when or if that's ever gonna happen thank you Sandra 921 news radio WORD. 927 email here roster constitution as you pointed out does not say. That the parents of the president mostly natural born citizens only that the president himself. These natural born I believe that in order for someone to be a natural born citizen both parents must be citizens but not necessarily. Natural born citizens and I think that previous court opinions. And other laws would back that up I believe if we examine the ancestry. Of every president. We would find there are some whose parents were not natural born at the guy. They're called in is that pro Ron new Gingrich then they need to find some other way to get rid of Romney and Santorum. The citizenship route is bogus that comes from the Mary and a good morning rounding do you can get Romney and come did not come. Seven million that in 2010 and I think much more when he worked actively worked and It did not come from his investment that was already marked late attack before. It came from carried interest which is the compensation. Either hedge fund manager or an investment managers but that Romney was the we're doing his work. It is special carve out. Special treatment. That particular kind of earned income but it is called Kerry carried interest and it attacked. At that the third grade low rates so unlike you or me who might take after tax money and invested in the stock and run all the risks associated with that. It was his initial. Armed and come treated at a 15% rate or whatever carried interest was what now that that is absolutely. But at turn eleven million dollar okay now bullpen but hang on and what's different capital gain and it's not that not debating you on that I'm not debating you on. But here's the thing it sounds like you're accusing him of tax fraud he not all and it on People have special carve out in the code. It's perfectly legal I'm not arguing that. It is unfair tax rate. For any and all income for any and all income or do you believe that as it should be treated differently. But if you're a salesman and you put together a billion dollar deal they'll come mention is treated at the regular marginal If you are doing a land deal they've realtor at the broker. You commission is treated at the regular rate but when Romney did steal his commitment was treated at carried interest I'm telling you that the special car about. And Obama argue Democrat they're not gonna let that. Why question and answer my question what do you think I am quite frankly I don't care how people make money. I don't care in what everybody don't jumping creative with their ordinary and apart rape of a at that point concede that point I said we need to rip this code out but we else I. I and I have a window and this is more it's like yeah so but I can't argue and has neighbor argument that aren't true but that Democrats aren't gonna let get away with nine point news. Enough of this already. I don't care how much money demand makes I don't care how I don't think it. I don't it's it's really don't care if you've got an issue with the laud them that relief is the issue. But at and I think we both. Degree as we just did the code needs to be ripped out pilot And it if we're ever gonna get to quote quote anything remotely resembling failure. Thank you Mary and by the way. Just one more buttress that point. And insert it this is just continued me If you would a context. Or should he win the lottery for crime but. You taxed on that money. That's that's not its. You know wanted to just ridiculous things. Our hero these advertisers and I know somebody won the powerball 100 million dollars. And what they never tell you use much of that would taxes. They didn't really what a hundred million dollars they didn't really get a hundred million dollars. Enough of this already 931. 36. People's advantage fault line numbers are jam. Soon as someone who's going you can join us 2329673. In 5749673. In Spartanburg. Those are the advantage stark lines come out of my text line. It's 71307. Bob thank you for your patience good morning good morning. Talking about that this fellow early on who mentioned that you have to be born in the United States to be a citizen and he's. Not thinking about all the American military. Who are stationed abroad. I was born in South Carolina my wife was born and went and North Carolina mayor there went to England and were stationed at a hospital. And two girls were born in England and they have a birth certificate issued by the American Consulate in Southampton but they also have British birth certificates registered at Wiltshire. So. There's always been this undercover. Talk about old what you have the you girls have dual citizenship but I've always. Understood that you can't have dual citizenship you one of the other but but they do have birth certificate. And that are registered in. Will share in England. So a lot. I would. My understanding Karzai's but you know gentleman who is from England and for a while. Did hold dual citizenship. Deb Richard they're probably people listening in this audience right now ball. Well I'd always heard it that you can't have dual slowly shipment Powell so you're doing legionnaires and he's never lose your British citizenship. And so so I don't know if well again they would be disqualified from running for office well liked. depends on the office it when it comes to president of the United States is when we get into the whole thing over natural born citizen as opposed to just being a citizen. There's say there's a difference. Again and again bitten. Well they are all full throttle according to Google a lot of Americans who were born in England that hospital turned out the Right right and. And so therefore they they could not. Beat president vice president of the United States. So I don't know. No no that's that is pretty sound constitutionally there because again. The difference. To be president of the United States according to the constitution. Of this country. You have to have it in your citizenship either in this is in quotes at birth survivor so again. It includes any child born in the United States all their The children of foreign diplomats. Who are serving their country or. The children. Of the US citizens born abroad. Again citizens as opposed to natural born citizens and those born abroad of one citizen parent who has met. US residency requirements. And there were a number of book of American men married to British women who heads. That children born in that they were eligible to be to get obstetrical care. In the in the American hospital because they were in the met a lot of vitamin. Dependent on an American Rivers All right thank you sir appreciate the call Mike and thank you for waiting. How about I would get about up and president does well going to hold it didn't win in respective Marianne rhetoric. What are the carve out or whether it's capital gains whatever it just make point even more. That's the tax code its policy its code it's it's the law they allowed he'll do. Patriot it mandated he pay three million dollars into our federal coffers anyway because although. Of you know critic so. Right 120 and Tony one million dollar income on mr. Romney's tax returns. Three million dollars in taxes. Okay federal that what band three billion dollar impacted into the federal coffers were culpable loophole. Wouldn't really good about what we're more than half the population who pay zero. The dollar into the federal call for the democratic. Well it's even greater than that a pretty even out yet and yet even in the other half their very few people that three million dollars in taxes. I about a has one billion. I probably at this spectacular. Half the population big into your federal. After called the loop this one man and women to Barry burn that half the population. Even got a potent you don't even with the loopholes it affects other candidate question is as is that enough is that fair and it cents. And I wondered where it's at at the point I'm trying to debate here is it that. You know you can download and then it's about gravity what ever bad. Yeah maybe maybe they didn't get a little bit of give it a little bit ahead because it. There are given little program ran out into their rhetoric that. I've said that before I have no problem get rid of every deduction every loophole out there lowered the tax rate for every human being. And yes I'll throw an end. If your if your retirement citizen if going to be a citizen of the United States. Then it's not fair for some the paid zilch. And ended you know the the upper 10% to the. are kind of regret it is crazy disingenuous declared that the better than I guarantee you that I don't know how that back. But I guarantee you that. secretary. Dell didn't pay I don't care what the you know yeah. It's the Britney needs a million that is a lot cheaper. of this absurd progressive tax system Mike thank you. Black Box State House Audio Blog

    06/21/2010

This black box and WORD. Presents capital impact. I have done and I'm everywhere it's sunny harmony and John the working group culminates again this week and talk about what's gone on your South Carolina State. House first John we live to our listeners last week only told none that is to be the last some of the General Assembly went back into session before. Comin' back in January right says they will be gotten our our schedule to get back Jean between nine. Because the Senate still has to take up some of the governor's budget vetoes. Listeners are gonna stop believing anything we have to say sunny. say yeah this is politics and sometimes are not as predictable as as we would like for them to be back. But we can't admit where and and part of the comin' back they're coming back. For a couple reasons that the speaker of the is. Economic development comprehensive economic development we've been talking about sustaining wary. got the house and the Senate into the governor's desk but there some some murmuring that governor Sanford. and vitae Parsons bill so they'll wanna come back to take that up on one part that lies are made by the full senate. Is the part about the corporate income tax exemption. In. The house and sent and some members are a little bit worried about that is that's a big chunk of change and with our. Budget feature found land land I don't think they're ready that but I do things so economy turns around we could see that provisions. Sony talked about a big chunk of change with the corporate income tax basically we're talking in the tens of millions of dollars of of economic impact it would basically be less that amount for the for the state coffers. Bryant and I and I know the exact number is than ever a hundred million dollars Erica. So again the that house and senate or turn to perhaps take up any vetoes of the governor has related today is but. Mainly in the sense donny's take those budget be tags and for that. First time since the Campbell administration. The house. Sustained at 51 end of the governor's beaten so that's a matter said. The General Assembly has sustain a governors to be budget bta news since the Kamel and minister. You and I talked about that and mark my two theories on that. Really stem men and number water and that the governor's relationship with the legislature's significantly improved since last summer. I can issued debt to too many many things is a legacy is it to Argentina trip who knows but. The relationships improve number one. And number to do you know folks last year we've seen rails. Surge in. And com and the population money and to make sure we are. Absolutely spending our money money as wisely as possible so you know necessary but you. I think American families and families are struck land him balance in there and check Buchan and they think if if they have says. Watch how they spend in other government to do the same so it looks like Janet are taxed also looks like that hasn't senator responding so that what about 309 dollars in cuts that house sustained in an interesting part that they. Sustain it was sustain the veto sustained heavy as say meaning they agreed to a Sanford but the governor. Time to head to take that part out unless out of cars spending right exactly sorry about that. And that one of those provisions was to completely defund the budget and control board. Senate's. Around 25 million dollars plus or minus a few million bright and be interesting to see come GI firsts well happened last. That administrative office. IO let's assume that our listeners have no idea what the budget and patrol board is and you probably don't. The budget control board basically is the administrative. Arm of the South Carolina. On executive branch bet that basically administers a lot of different. Programs and needs and just seems like a catchall for a lot of administrative duties for the South Carolina government. We I think the only ones that at the and that in the country that has a budget control board. That's made up of of course you know budget control board made up of of hundreds of employees but. The folks who run frank fees go is actually the executive director. And then he works for a five member board. That runs the whole budget board and it's really common. Kind of unique analysts say bizarrely has bizarre was the lone unique way it's set up. That you've got the governors the chairman And got four other members to serve on the board to get to executive branch in two legislative branch members so he gets it the governor who's the chairman and you get that. The house ways and means chairman. You get the senate finance chair and and then you get thick and comptroller general. They get the treasurer who who make up so it's it's the 25 million dollars I'll be see how that how that plays outside. But not a anymore the budging patrol board is Stephen thanks for explaining that time because again as it is unique T South Carolina. these states and many have that sunny united Salem boring. Are your son thank you he's talking about more exciting things on our says there. Going message and that the Senate it's gotta come back in a look at today's fifty winds sustained and he says And the reason says they got caught. Didn't own better idea bell and you know find the house and senate agreed okay Democrats or Republicans all acquire there. Be. Require that identification when but then. Okay so real quick so so for our nom political folks voter ID. Is the bill. Controversial bill that basically says to bring a picture right deal when you go to vote. Is that right that's right okay just wanna make sure our listeners are So asset the F signified ID to get event I guess you need Digisette picture idea making more clear listeners well people from Don and analysts and when I saw NC nicer feel and a sales and you don't. From Greenwood that kind of talk fast sometimes I just wanna make sure listeners. But all that. Any guys said today that discrepancy at a do you read that they added a provision. TU Democrats ever does support that. About early an absentee and on the Senate side the senators and we want fifteen days before the election for early banning. And you would have to include a Saturday. In there as well for the Democrats in the center agreed to how are the conference committee which is made up of three house members are negotiating teams prior yet they negotiated to seven days of early voting. And the Senate also and allow absentee betting on paper ballots anytime before the election and machine thirty days prior to the election. And for not be implemented until January. Of 2012 on. So basically what this and it came down Sierra what they said last week is. where the how and and the house is basically said it's are aware of how I said to be interesting to see would you call that a breakdown in negotiations a little yes say it will be interesting to see is if the house. Laviolette I mean a or other prod or you go away and saying okay we want the picture ID or you know what the Senate aren't yet here he's gonna do that said. basically facts I think putting talents for lying to you again I think it's pretty much dead for the year. Really. Okay. Well considering just to do the budget because I can't imagine them getting on vendor ID but you know again it's been a early years so who knows now that we you all the legislative action last weekend coming up on when promise you're gonna talk about some more. Other runoff elections. And first of all want to start off well as an election going on in Spartanburg counting. It's Laffer joined now let's house seat and he he ran against team. Other he's being common to other fags and say he came in second happily. Member joy Millwood took the place of of blood bubble. Walker. Tracked okay and and she is that distance Sarah come out the about walker who is the chairman of house education course committee got beat by Joe Milledge don't know it's a rookie this year and he had to whether you'll run against him. Said led has then super conservative have the next two years that he's. He's done surged four Spartanburg county up. And in as it sounds like he can violent leaders IP dead but he really stuck to his values in the values of people. From his district how would contend that he represented that area Spartanburg very well. Right and remember represents northern. Part of Spartanburg. Land land area Campobello and I think he's born and raised in the area and has a pet has also born and raised in that area of the county opponent his Doug brand and a long year. Many served only City Council and then he was a Maryland John. The was elected mayor blames 1993 I don't know how long does Marron. We don't have enough lawyers in the legislature there Mikey get to add another one I know Millwood is not a lawyer. He's a small business and our the what agency I believe he just started his and insurance company say gotten. Very different personalities far as what they. Denny got in the third congressional district made it onto a federal election are US election. You've got it. Richard cash. And end and of course jumped did Jeff Duncan sunny I don't know anything about cash do you know anything about this guy. All have it sounds like he was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida and he did get a Furman University Mark Sanford end. I Izzy Jacksonville team now plays a Florida guy Clark and all the same big dollar don't know much about it and I is that hate children and schools say children and he is not a liar he has done. About that had different businesses I think that's Fleet I guess who caught a fleet of ice cream trucks. And Alison another business and a camera that SLA is in there so he's wildly popular have a Tea Party candidate so he's an ice cream guys who is wildly popular with free ice prevent the age group of OF five did to the thirteen rise and very quiet yet I have is mail that from and then and Jeff again. And he's also the chairman of the house out of committee agriculture committee he is eclipsing grad and it's you know he placed any forward. It is no yeah and in that thirteen national district you think Jeff docking can just run on played football for a constant and glory years and then an right. sure and he's also this is Manny is real estate agency Lama our company and he's an auctioneer. Yeah he is an auctioneer mama Clemson grad. When were the glory years. We inexperience says we Clemson but I study clubs not the sunny Sunday any Ford was there glory years and that's why would have done. You know I I feel like Don Mattingly you know Don Mattingly with the New York Yankees started in 1978. 79 the year after they won the World Series. And he retired some teen years later I think in 1994. He retired in the very next year. They won the World Series of the got place yankees eighteen years to and one was there's. I feel like Don Donnie baseball I feel like Donnie baseball because I sort of Clemson in 1992. With the Hatfield. Tommy west's I was too about my thing that was gonna bring home. Things happen machine. I don't know and I imagine how does say is I have an I don't know what's gonna happen but so I'm gonna have. I and a shout outs are Clemson Tigers are playing in the college World Series it's our yard gain conference got CB is. Our our our game constantly is last night reported three heavily. You know other very few times a root for the gamecocks while those times is when they've planned and cultural series because that's such a great tradition and have to have less great for South Carolina. This is his for South Carolina. Two other racism whenever recycle Duncan just things about Jeff Duncan. Other than the AM valley that's just don't they am I'm a huge step Jeff Duncan fan and and she's just outs anyway. He talked about someone who just I hear aggression bears and as a wake of the more and one of the people who work can go to sleep. One poor people Warrick and and the same way Duncan absolutely. Monster grow the economy is South Carolina his. He's go out of varies is a staunch conservative vote less government guy. But the end of the day he he wants to put people back to work can not. I'll tell you I don't know this cash guy but I think to make make an outstanding. Congressman from third district South Carolina. I drink thanks John and sit out guide our attorney general obviously. Hearing master. Will not be our attorney general Maidenform because he back into the governor's race if you have a good campaign and I thought very armed I you in a positive. Uplifting campaign every day to day he made us all proud of these south Carolinians and to be Americans in this very proud of worries from ended of that. Fabulous campaigning. However he is gonna be replaced this year as far as the attorney general role as guys and late lord and Allen will send. Made the run off for that election. And and it's got early in Phishing news remains Tina Allen wells and is association I blame lawyer because he doesn't have. Prosecution background. And then late lord looks at a more is you need and managerial roles CIA type type role as you are managing amazing all the a.'s attorneys if you are the attorney general trust via. And so they that interesting interesting things there I think there's a new commercial outlets has really interesting Nassau last night about. Allan Wilson telling the bar examine. A couple other things on am sure of that I haven't scored well on tests are not passed and I know John has. I I've yet it's in a few more years some for years it's Clemson but saying that. Hello Wilson for some folks who don't know is does some of fudge congressman Joe Wilson from. From the midlands and Buford area and and Leighton lord is the clock is in Columbia guy. He he that really works in the in print office in Colombia he's the managing partner there. I urged south Tryon north China next improve offices Santa. I I think you'd be interesting to have a private business. Attorney he's done and defense saddest thing he's. In gets even though that trained journalist and really consider prosecutor. In many times you may be defending the state south it depends on high a look at it but. They had only one percentage point and separated down in the primary Jennings and he really placed. And plan Elaine large honest but it out there right now. Both stepped at the think Another another I for different than an education. And that's Elizabeth my awfully dry and megs I say you say how ice and ansari names are difficult for opera house about a big set up to one of my favorite people. Who work and and in and around state government JW irregularly. Says heavier Reilly yes he's done a great job running and campaign. Receiver and send an education and an interesting thing I didn't realize Elizabeth flame. They ran for the Republican nomination and went chairman Floyd ran and she's Republican now right she's Republican now okay however she finished fourth proud Mary put in line. That cancel later and you go to Korea. And done. Apparently she then came out and endorsed Jim Rex you obvious to you know as a Democrat he then went on to be our superintendent education that's on the very interesting there's some fodder for some time Republicans out there an institution that I found that very insisting that I don't know enough about the Background. have to take on John in Oregon here Furman act as our listeners may or may not now and then and megs ace is. Who met here as she did he could miss the let's say this is that they need very college president Newberry knee bearing right not Nebraska I'll ever broken out. There's until instead let me you know what. I don't know much about these these on him for Siebert denies that he's you know the laurel does this guy. What of the broad had campaigning iron to stay get a Red Hat with a big and nicely I don't blame that's gonna get a much many voters in south Carroll now. Obviously you supporting his goal heritage college. And that the dollars is for anyone pick on. And obviously they got a big. Gubernatorial race don't come nun and her tomorrow and I mean runoff between Gresham Barrett. Q is that. Third congressional district congressman and then got Nikki Haley represented about Lexington county south. do not say what people SP two months ago is gonna win this race and you know I go through litany of you know the good to have really the top four candidates and on the Republican side NASA you know I think makes you will resonate well that she's distant memory name ID and and only she's gonna really do much and boy that Sarah Palin endorsement didn't she heard it stardom right so beat. There be an enemy that sun news coverage of her as hard to compete with all that earned media as because as we know she's raised the least amount of money of anybody any other Republicans you are running. And try and are you are seeking nominations show and I'll say well I mean can decide as a whole money you GM. The FD allegation allegations are out there of course they got her a lot of our media. And then of course senator knots with his rag heads comments. Got even more of our media for. For her so she's been all over the And I even though his work for her in M. Hearts out her family for haven't to get three days negative comments there. Negative campaigns aren't aren't everything we support here but now just wanna the Sundays in the Perrier and tourists. Nikki Haley over the weekend and then there knees I'd just from a paper this morning and has endorsed. married again and says. Which isn't saying they agree on news endorse Gresham. The Seneca newspaper. Enjoy Nikki Haley. And then it's it's been a very interesting again I think. You know I think it hurts. And dress and says and extend just have ever serving has served in Washington. And especially during the time that he served there's just been semi controversial and American people and south China especially. Are just really fat what Washington. Period Democrat Republican and conservatives and liberals. And it in it's it's disheartening for some of the good guys all over the nation and Al in the batter out just because they're there and someone being innocent bystander. I mean I talk to regular folks people unlike you and me Sonny who actually do something for a living other than politics. And they've made their their message basically has banned. I don't care who they are we need to get of a mall. And that's what they've been saying we need to get rid of a mall and start all over. Good batter ugly so so will. We'll see you speak and that that's a say great segue into the fourth congressional district race. Riley idealists and dowdy and that. I don't you might what to say are you gonna Madison. But we talked about a little bit about this last week that you know the get out he races really. Will resonate well the anti incumbency. But you know I say something is hard hard hard first Spartanburg. Person to win this fourth congressional seat. Because you're out voted I don't know the exact statistics. I think you're close to 60% of the voters are voting from Greenville and it's a very parochial. Appear in South Carolina. I think nearly eighteen you. Some Downey's past veterans restoration and I'm voter registration that some past elections he's better than her. Hurting him a little beds are and that afternoon the exact but I I've just seen because some people out in the community talking about how he supported Democrats in the past and it clearly he's running on a very conservative sure conservative platform but it's interesting race to watch very interesting to sing let's get as. Blood pumping iron and a red faced and again energized. You know alarm boot the talking about the pro killer ism. Between Spartanburg and Greenville and I think a lot of those walls haven't broken down last twenty years thankfully. It's still there and start reviewing a vote for Spartanburg person. More so than agreeable guy who is really and seeing I heard the story. From star amber that. There used to be Spartanburg businessman when they've had to come over to agreeable to do business. They pack a lunch you know what that pack a lunch Then they went into Intel Iranian their money they'd only okay any myself to others come along way since those pro realistic days but think governor via Adobe initially raises can be a lot of fun tomorrow see what kind of leaders at Emily Nelson next tune for years. Yeah and remember is that down the polls open that clay is promptly is seventeen around and remember if you they did end the Democrat prime named in the originally damage the Democrat run off and if you rent it vetted and that us they're Republican end the out of it Republican this summer row. Now interestingly though sunny and fuel may not know this that. Just because you didn't vote in the primary doesn't mean that you cannot vote in the runoff exactly and you can still thought a runoff so. Cyanide does not they on the outing greens situations since we did that we've already gone about twenty minutes long and easily remains on just keep Gavin here. But in crawl he was running for. Did democrats' nomination to run against senator to moved in in November. Actually. That the whole democratic shot Tron and Democratic Party held a hearing here across this story ahead to talk about beyond that. Things that thankfully noted may have happened then that word. Fishy according to the raw campaign. But thankfully. Just because the candidate they want and dental and you know the people did speak. And right or wrong. And that's gonna hold trail and that passing the Democratic Party made a wise decision yeah. Saying you know and we're sorry raw. But we didn't think there's enough evidence there to hold another primary. May 27. Pole came a poll was conducted. 82%. Of south Carolinians. Had never heard of Craig Syverson likely democratic voters. I think it was actually voters all voters right. Said we have no idea who Vick well as 82%. So what that and that I was like what a week or two before the primary write a week. So that tells me is you know unfortunately if someone wanted to win a primary they need to make sure more than 82%. More than eighteen for an eighteen. Send name recognition staggering. Well thank you all for listening just today if you haven't turned your tendered computer all for your idea off by now. But we look for dead talk Indian next week we'll have our wrap up on Wyatt. Happened in 1922 and that is runoff elections and. And I just go gamecocks. tigers. And the cult drink US aid in the World Cup and. Says thanks for listening and we look telling you what happened next week. sound visit inside black box dot com.

Some real boys hockey rally the fumbling broadcasters they paid commercial program and does not reflect the views. Of the staff and management. Of Entercom communications or WORD radio. Well good morning on the corollary is hey we're almost at Christmas I cannot get fifteen days away. If you get together and hope so. Howry and Jeremy dale and you have just tuned into common sense. Retirement planning. Normally I the best friend and partner here Philip Allen but he says that with me based can hold the fort down on my own it's never the same with that game say. You know I just how many people in. The life. Get to. In working we if the person turns out to be the best friend they read and telling is one of the greatest blessings. It'd be great. We're both retirement planner which essentially means that. We're more interest in making sure that people get through their retirement without running out of money. We're taking big hits in the markets when they can and don't have time to make them. Everything we do we do through capital investment group member refinery in SIPC and we do. Try to answer questions here on the show but I would love to try to do that for you. The number by the way 2329673. In Greenville. And 5749673. In Spartanburg and we'll tell you whatever interest give you today will be. Some general cars in the end. To treat with securities we have to try to be very. And it's clear on what suitable for given individual however home would love it to have a conversation with you about that. So those are your numbers and other thing we always do both opened fire members of kingdom advisors and we do try to always start the program. With a source of the greatest wisdom on the planet which is the Bible. And we feel stewardship is sort of the ultimate aim in the end with all of this stuff that you do with the money that god gives you you and he's someone give the opportunity to do it. What are my favorite chapters proverbs is in the 22 because just. Filled with Things on money it's funny in my Bible course it would be natural considering what I do but I've gone through every time find a personal Bible has something to do with money. I'll make a little dollar sign outside school remind. So I'm just just just in the first nine. Vs. Four of them and one that really. It and it isn't directly that it applies in the certain circumstances. One of them most important who's gonna relate to what's going on on the world today and what's going on so much of the financial panic. Is this one to 22 to. The rich. In the post Art 23 the the rich rules over the poor. And borrowers slave could that's actually 27 sorry. One of one of the ones that that is I think equally applicable to our current situation is is 223. The prudent sees evil coming behind himself with a nine knew going in or punished for. There is so much going on right now in the world. Did. Impacts. Individual investors and retirees. And there is a sense and I get it every day when I talked to people of them complete uncertainty about what's going on in the marketplace. Well it's pretty darn understandable and I'm trying to to lay out today some of the the reasons for this and also. Talk a little bit about. What is coming what are the secrets. To my practice. And Phillips has been our. Ability to foresee events. Kind of like the burst just said we see stuff coming in we try to warn people we try to put people in a protective situation. Before they get hit by a what happens. And have here is a great piece today. In the big picture that's very rivals blog. Which if you have never checked his blog out you can just Google big picture and you come up with rivals dot com. So here's the name of the financial crisis was entirely foreseeable question mark or not. Whenever there's a disaster those responsible claimed it was unforeseeable to escape. And so they're not to blame for example they said that handled 9/11. With the BP oil spill with the Japanese nuclear accident later on of course rocks sort of warning signs that we should've seen. So the big boys gamble with our lives and our livelihoods because they make a killing by taking huge risks and cutting costs and then. When things inevitably goes out they are held responsible other than slap on the wrist in May even be bailed out by the government. But surely the financial crisis was different after all. Wall Street executives and politicians say the financial crisis was unforeseeable. Well actually. In my opinion. We've known for thousands of years. The dads need to be periodically written down or the entire economy will collapse. We've known for 19100 years that rampant inequality destroy societies. We've known for thousands of years the debasing currency leads to economic collapse. We've known for hundreds of years that the failure to punish financial fraud destroys economies. We've known for hundreds of years that monopolies and the political influence which accompanies those. With too much power in too few hands is dangerous for free markets. We've known for hundreds of years that trust is vital for healthy economy. And we've known since the 1930s Great Depression. It's separating depository banking from speculative investment banking is the key to economic stability. We've known since 1988 the quantitative easing doesn't work to rescue an ailing economy. We've known since 93. The derivatives such as credit default swaps it not and could take down the economy. We've known since 1998. It crony capitalism destroy he's even the strongest economies. Not economies that are capitalists to name only need major reforms to create accountability and competitive markets. We have known since 2007. earlier that lax oversight of hedge funds. Could blow up the economy. And we knew before 2008 in the financial crass and the subsequent bailouts. The easy credit policy of the Fed and other central banks the failure to regulate the shadow banking system in the use of gimmicks. By central banks hurt the economy. We've known that anything other than letting asset prices to their true market value. Increasing savings rates. And forcing companies to write off bad will only make things worse. We've the bailout of the banks harm the economy. And we've known the Fed and other central banks were simply transferring risk from private banks to governments. Which could lead to a sovereign debt crisis. Given the insane levels of debt. Rampant inequality. Currency debasement. Failure to punish financial fraud. Growth of the too big to fails. Repeal of the Glass-Steagall. Refusal to rein in derivatives. Crony capitalism. And other nonsense. The financial crisis. Was in fact entirely. Foreseeable. And I would simply. Put a fine point on this by saying had you been listening to his radio program. Full four year to two years before this 0709 collapse occurred to. I was warning people this was coming. This was foreseeable and was I'm not even implying that I'm some sort of a genius it's really not that difficult if you study history. And you see what has happened in the past. But with Sandia and those who failed to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. So. Let me just finish this. I'm by saying to you. If you are a retiree. You're getting ready to retire. You need to quit paying attention to what you hear every day on CNBC read every day in. In the Wall Street Journal and it about what's happening with the market today what's happening with the market. Over the next week right now you can go on EPA the markets in the black for the week things are good life is good let me just give you a leap. A bit of perspective from a retirement planning standpoint. The Dow is down 14%. From its all time high and that happened of course before 2000. The NASDAQ is down 40%. From where it was before 2000. And the SP is down 20%. So why does this matter well for almost twelve years down the road from 2000 What if as is the case with Japan we have another twelve. Or more years before the market recovers and gets back to its original That's where the Nikkei is it's an 80% from where was an 89. If you retiree. And you are facing. 10152030. Years of retirement. How in the world are you gonna get through this without running out of money if you keep taken these hits and the answer is there are ways to do it which you better check into the man. I'll talk more about them and you have to take a break here so we will do that let me start this break by talking to you a little bit about somebody's. Welcome back to comment since retirement planning and Tony dale and Philip element but he's oh way today so it's just us kids here. I am I started a program quoting from proverbs it says the borrower is slave to the Linder. And what's happening in the world today is the direct result of too much leverage leverage is just another word for it. So I thought it would be informative to to take a look at how we got in these masks and where might we be going. So let us start with him this this isn't the story from CNN ran well last Thursday. Household wealth to his biggest hit. Since the height of the 2000 make financial meltdown during the third quarter. The Federal Reserve says that the net worth of councils fell by 2.2. Trillion dollars. Or four point 1%. To end 57 point four trillion. That decline. Comes to about 7800. Dollars for every resident. Of the United States it is the biggest decline since the five point six trillion loss suffered. In the fourth quarter of 08. I don't have with you have a chart in my office which if you can be seen me at one of the many chart too where I'll tell what the advantages of coming to see me. And by the way to free consultation. In the end you don't take my recommendation not everybody knows that's fine I don't expect everybody to. But. At the very least I feel it's my duty to share my research with people so I. I spent a lot of time talking about the history and and and how where our week. Is compared to the past not just in the stock market's been in a whole lot of different trend lines and and I tie them all to get receive concede. I think. A fairly obvious direction we're heading and based on the past the present and a supposition where that might be getting. So we talked about How do we get in this one of my chart shows the unemployment rate. Which in this is the real unemployment rate incidentally. Forget the number that Washington the administration always quotes which is what called youth number that is total Malarkey. Because it doesn't count people who've given up looking for work. So they say that's a point six when was such a cooked up. Number. That is not even funny. The real member of the U six number which doesn't include those who've given up looking for work I would call them unemployed ever you. That number is fifteen point seven. At the same time that has happened. I've got a chart that shows you personal income. And it is in the last ten years dropped dramatically. And and of course I just shared with you this story about household these are not good trends and they are the direct. Result. Of what this government the Fed and our government together have done. Colluded to who have done I would say. And and so I thought it would you hear a lot about. Presidents and and how much did they took I thought this would be informative since we're heading into an election who owns it. Debt increases by president percent of total estimated. By the end of Obama's first term. In the short four years since Obama has been president. He has increased debt by forty. Six point 38%. Number two. George W. Bush. When he was an amateur compared this that was 20%. And then you have Bill Clinton. That would have been nine point 73. And then you have eight point 33. From Bush's first. In the Reagan nine point 54 or. And after that it dropped you might be interested to know what the average Nixon Is this really puts this in perspective. The average. Amount of increase for president before President Nixon was too. Point 17. Again two point 17 compared to a bombing in four years it has run up 46 point 38%. Do you think if this was your household. That it would be a good thing for you. I didn't think so. And it's not a good thing for us nor is a good thing for our country. The problem is we're not alone because as you will know you've been following the news. We've got problems around the world. And there's a great piece today on this or European debt crisis call why the Merkel Sarkozy pact is doomed to fail by who is a really good columns you've read MarketWatch. If you hear and understand the latest Franco German proposal imagine this. Imagine the government of China and Japan demanding that they be given the legal right to override the US budgets legislative process if needed. And to impose tax hikes and spending cuts on the American people as needed. After all China and Japan are these creditors the US government so why not. Not quite as deeply in debt perhaps is share of our economic output as Europe's but. Not far behind right now. Well market rally this week on hopes that the leaders of your. Go figure this out but proposal is preposterous. It would be remarkable. You this idea got program. Ask yourself why he would Portuguese except the right of Germany to impose budget cuts on their country why would the Greeks. How would you feel if you were opened the Paper to be told they mussina Japanese fiscal stability commission in Washington. Had just last your grandma's Social Security checks my effort to scale back federal highway repairs. And that would impose a 10% national sales tax. That is after all effectively what is being offered the people of Greece Italy Spain Portugal and Ireland. He makes a great point. We are we are in unchartered territory what is happening here and review as a retiree. To put yourself in harm's way. By listening to people's advice to tell you don't worry about a thing just buying holding keep doing what you've always done just have a good for diversified mutual fund portfolio these can bring down to hey mark about this they told your. In a great. Don't change anything. I'm here to tell you that it is time to reconsider what you're doing because we are not in the same sort of world we live didn't. When you got used to investing from 1982 to 2000 the greatest. All we've ever had we're twelve years into a secular bear market the market you adjust for inflation right now. The S&P is down about 35% from where was in 2012. That tells you right away that you gonna have to have a pretty dramatic increase in. The rate of return ever hope to get back where you and if you're income it's not gonna happen. Got to take a break for the news I'm Tony Palin for with since retirement planning and when we come back and also tell you the truth about how much of your tax dollars. You don't know is do you hang out in the way dude that guy could be stand up comedian when he's not on the radio here is one of funny some things Idaho. At any rate we have a caller so let's that let's go to the phone Craig and travelers Reyes was up. Good morning Tony Artie blank has. Does plan B. Right now trap earlier. I want to thank you took three years ago started listening to you more seriously when you resentment for Robin. I'm self employed started going to talk entity. I'm used to work more on for domestic elsewhere. And out I'm not invite you talk about all you know I started building here in this thing is that a mobile and it's gonna pop and how to get out because. We have a lot of money and not you know that we think we don't our business what little historic site and at that point. I don't know about that you're gonna panic would have put you in this final automatic clash yeah yeah yeah out of the all story short. Because I haven't had direct impact in my slider and got out and you know I've put my money hard assets that you know. Thankfully were undervalued but I just wanted to. Number one thank you Europe in my because that really helped me a lot told that a year ago last following. about and not you know you really you're upset a lot of which state in their whole lot longer which would essentially don't in the tank. God bless you for doing it makes me feel you know honestly I feel like it's just a gift that they did I have the opportunity to be on the radio and thank god for every day because as I BME created. This opportunity and yes I am living doing it but I really do take it seriously isn't as as a way to try to to warn people. Of what's coming in May give me an analogy because I think this just makes it so easy to understand for people abused before. Well but. Essentially. Let's first let's start with this or they're a couple of stories today Craig on volatility in the in the Wall Street Journal and what they're talking about things like high frequency trading in. The failure opening this calendar and all the rest but what is done. Is it is tilted the playing field against the small investor and this has been going on now for number of years is getting more and more the case new every day. When you look at the market it's so let's imagine. Instead of market. In this and one of those charts we've seen with them to chart or up and down up and down if you're looking at it like you might into the Wall Street Journal today. Imagine you're looking at the ocean. And you're sitting in a vote so if the ocean is just flat we would call it column. And that's a good thing. But if the ocean is going up and down and up and down and up and down kind of like in that movie the perfect storm we would call that a storm. And it is mind. Considered opinion that we are in the worst economic storm we have ever had including. The thirties by the time this is all said and done this is going to be in my opinion and what happened in the 25 year. Bear market of the thirties. So. You're on about. So let's imagine now that you go instead of thinking there's money thing that you've been told you need a vote so you go to a guy and he says here's what you need you need this sailboat right here. And these are well I don't know best story I'm the expert this here's what you need this sailboat at all you have to do they have a perfect sailing experience. He's just scroll all lets you. Let it catch the wind. And don't bump into anything watch where you're steering and by golly you're gonna have a great experience. Well you're Salem for a couple days and is a great spiritual thing managed to guys good I'm Lebanon's. And then one thing you look out in in the distance there's just were grave roiling clouds roaring down you get on your wasn't. there there's a storm coming. And it's almost here what should I do. Oh nothing. Don't worry about it just keep the sail up and keep doing what you're doing. This statistically very few sailboat it's a historically on average. You say oh wait no wait a minute I'm on this boat. Owner or his can be cool. That is no different than many retirement plan or tell somebody performing investment advisor not retirement plan. But some typical of this guy says don't worry about the market downturns don't really about. on every inch the market always comes back over time and on average it's averaged about 8%. Well here's what they didn't tell you Craig. To get that 8% number you're gonna have to go our way back to that 1890s. And averages out all the way now. And yes the market comes back over time but we can look at several instances the depression as I mentioned there's a 25 year bear market. We've had several eighteen year bear markets. So if fury retiree you're you're getting ready retire here's a question you ask yourself. How much time do you have to wait before the market comes back. And are you gonna run out of money before that happens to your provision taken income in the markets dropping at the same time. It could devastate your retirement plan. I have a question for you this then I'm real curious about your New Year's diet and I can hang up you response to it certainly a lot of people. I've been that bad bad. And so does destroy you started male majority upbeat intra read everything could get my insult and not know I'm not are fighting change but not a whole lot more about it. You know you all. About three older about this three articulation of That piece investment bank banks are doing it out to note. A a regular like Bank of America and other won't you know. Storefront extreme and what little. In Europe we're pretty oversight apparently in London relax it's spilling out into the trillions of golf course. All right there's one that says you know grab the royals should get ready to go under rebel object integrated it all for just get off now. As far as being ready for major financial data there eagle bulk of it these bankers are not that state yes could be bad but they haven't done it the everybody strategy catchy well. There's something happened that it will be It was in European Union being more on the inside this and other people he has debt how propagation problem. Like MF global is at the tip of the iceberg is that going to be more typical these large financial groups. Or do you bank today extorted back away from that because noted they're gonna go some huge crash in the central banks get back Is is he just one school of thought is hey these guys are the smartest people in the world they're big bankers they're gonna let this happen. Oh really. Well it would be instructive for some of those people who are saying this may be to read the book 800 years of financial folly this time it's different is to a this time is different 800 years of financial folly by Reinhart and broke off where they go. Back and show 800 year war to move. This same source stupid. Creation of And inflation and money printing. It has gotten one nation after another nation after another nation 800 years going back. Into trouble. Because look at just ten years ago Argentina. They're still they still have a it. So his question was. Could be as bad as we're getting ready to have a major financial collapse and my answer to you Craig. Is it most definitely could happen if this happened many times before. But. We in an election year And we have in this country. What amounts to a good talkers. We have a nation not run by the people anymore. it was designed that way to Begin if that was the vision of our founding fathers. To. Create a a nation where government had very little influence. And the changes in our society were is a result of public. Opinion. And it was that way. Up into the thirties and slow slide down the hill began. And now we are not greatly different from the socialist. Democracies of Europe correct and right now. In fact did in four short years. This bonehead in the White House has taken this very forum wrote. And if we continue We have a very real possibility of not only a collapse. Of some kind. dramatic change in the nature. Of our institutions in this country. As it is as we sit here today. There was a time in this country. Where people trusted government. And wasn't that long ago up until say he didn't have this forties. But throw war or two people I had a good opinion of government they trusted people you wanna find. Faith and government. That would be congress and the president and bureaucracies all of it. Is any record low. In some cases single digits. Most of us do not believe. That so we have lost faith. In the government we've lost faith I might in Wall Street they're buddies. And the people there involved with in this little blue talk single that we we have going on. We've lost faith in the media. We've lost faith in academia. To a large degree these are the underpinnings of our culture. So ask yourself. And that together with the debt we fifteen trillion were almost did a 100% of GDP to debt ratio now. By the way he'll have a frame of reference the average. European debt to GDP is 85%. They we have 63 trillion dollars worth of unfunded liabilities entitlements. That the government is promising to pay people Social Security Medicare Medicaid. To ask yourself where might that lead us try your own conclusion. Well let me kind of change gears quickly. You were talking here about the fiscal health of our country in your own personal fiscal health. But since we're talking that Medicare. One of the greatest expenses people potentially facing retirement medical care. As well as you get older things start fallen apart sometimes. Now you cannot guarantee that you're never going to have some kind of physical problem. But I will guarantee this. If you start. Taking care of your body. Taking preventative measures and by that I mean working out regularly eating the right kind of foods taking the right supplements and so forth. You can't slow down the aging process and you can't prevent a lot of these degenerative diseases. And I do this and I've been doing this for a long time and if you let me you would think I was probably younger than actually. It not because some kind of genius again is just that I committed for an early in the heat right it's not the biggest not rocket science. But I don't do it alone I get help just like good Craig called me started reading and he's he's becoming an auto dial back the self knowledge is power well. I work out with people they help me. I go to Brooks Brothers Jim and I have guys like Kevin that was in there this morning doing some weight work with him and he was open he was. Personal trainer and he shall we would try this do these It motivates me keeps me from hurting myself and do something stupid. And they are in my opinion there's some of the best personal trainers anywhere. I've been going there for a long time brits Brothers Jim and I too easy to get tipped over on Woodruff road and my back academy for actually six Woodruff. You need call. 2880172. Welcome back to come since retirement planning have my partners that were here today storms were doing the show alone I'm to let you know. I'm not the smartest guy. But I'm kind of like the guy called earlier Craig. I learned. Many many years ago I I was fortunate my dad was one of the first talk show host in America he was doing talk radio in the fifties. And I used to do talk radio and if so if you do this for a living what you become is what the board for this is an auto didactic floor. Rush Limbaugh probably the best example finished college. But he's one of these I I he cares Ph.D.s Detroit and everyday sane minded. And you can learn anything you want about anything especially with the Internet now. There's no excuse for you not to know and knowledge is So so much of what I say and do and so much that informs my world view is the result of all of the reading of history the studying of current events and so forth that goes on connecting the dots. So I mostly what I do on the show is quote people that know more than I do and here's a good point. Jim Rogers was on Glenn Beck's show this week. And Beck asking. The economic collapse of the Euro will that lead to recession listen to what Jim Rogers. It will lead to the end of the world as we know it. That will certainly lead the end of the world as Washington DC knows that there is no question about it and just you know if you don't know who Jim Rogers is. He along with George Soros founder of the quantum fund which was one of the first international funds. He is the creators of Rogers international commodities index which is quote all the time. Well known proponent of free market capitalism. Author. Lecturer on the Columbia university graduate school of business this guy is one of the smartest investors in the world. Two when he says this you need to be paying attention here. He knows what he's talking about and he's proven it time and again he's been right. He went on to say we do live in perilous times and I hope you are very careful and I hope you are prepared. And there was asked what's the difference between recession depression and the much for your total collapse so Craig I hope you're listening to this. If you asked this question. This is what Jim Rogers asked. More recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you Hoosier job. collapses when nobody has a job and their people forging in the streets. That happened in Argentina ten years ago it happened in Germany in the early twenties. Will it ever happening. You see my friends hand that's what they actually if you study history roll anthems. Britain let's take Britain perfect example. You wanna know where we're heading. Take a look at Great Britain right now compared to what they were from Baghdad is the turn of the nineteenth century. Britain Britannia rule always had the most far flung empire in the world at one point. Strongest currency the pound and so forth. And then they started down the road to debt. They started in the road to ever increasing government. By the mid sixties and in Britain quality of life deteriorated dramatically. They were. Far. The way from being the greatest power in the world. There inflation rate was nearly 26%. And highest tax rate was nineteen person and you might remember little tune by The Beatles called tax man could pits where gained for a we are heading down that road if you heard the speech Obama made this week it was a naked to. Refutation of everything then I in most free market capitalist holier he essentially said capitalism has org it's never worked. He made a naked. Please. For socialism this week. And he laid threw down a gauntlet we at least we know what the fight's going to be over this time. It's very obvious. It's about ever expanding nanny state ever increasing taxes. An ever greater control by government over everything that happens to you and I both in the world of economics and and every other area of life. Who's in the gym today just as an example of this talking to it Kevin was to my trainer. It's complaining about his power bill power so we you do realize that. And he was blaming duke power should you realize it's not their fault. Do you blame somebody blame the EPA under Carol in the Obama administration. And they're constantly. Trying to please the left this environmental wackos. Duke asking for 17% increase in why well because the EPA has created new rules nobody voted on the new rules that will mean that is gonna cost of coal industry billions of dollars to retool. And they're doing are purposely wanted to kill the coal industry 'cause they hated because they say it creates carbon dioxide even know. There's no proof that carbon dioxide as a need. Affect whatsoever on climate this is a false premise to Begin with doesn't matter this is about control. Part of the bill that's being debated in Washington this week it has to do with the payroll tax when they're not going to continue stay off. In Obama's threatening to veto the bill with Republicans come up with the clause. They want to put the Keystone Pipeline through which would create 200000 jobs give us a source of energy. At the same time the EPA is going after the shale. And oil industry and fracking. We have enough potential energy in this country to be energy and independent and export energy. And it would turn our economy around but we have socialists. They're trying to change these things and it's up to you in I. Devote these people out of office. On Leno political and you didn't I forgot it was not the Obama claims show where I'm sitting in that is my own show and so because I think the but tidy and it is like if we we all know about market risk inflationary risk running out of money There's a new kind of reason that we're world have been in his retirees now that's political risk. Do you know that since Obama has been in office I told you he's increased debt of the highest in the prison 46%. Or better. So debt is down almost a 100% GDP did you know he is suspending. Going back to 75 the average non defense spending was fifteen point six GDP it's now nineteen point six. If we hope to survive we're going to have to change the people there in Washington Sotheby's. All right or nothing If you are facing retirement in your retired and you worry about it. It doesn't cost you one to call us 1800. 687. 6768. And get a 42. Opinion. You may not take our advice don't. The only and programs that are out there have really. You drive at this I guess is probably these term. The biggest challenge you're gonna find is what or what Massey went deeper look in the filing and now you're talking about acreage are you talking about a lot to build owner tell me. Church. And I currently okay. You're probably looking at a minimum of 30% down payment. Com and that's where most of the heart burning challenge comes in from people that are it's about that. Also. You're gonna need a tiny bank that you're gonna need you're gonna need to have a relationship with is going to be somebody that you need have a little money with. Checking savings. some type of relationship. And the other thing is they're gonna and there are some type of plan that you have for the acreage. Are not planning on building on it in and the next year three years five years whatever the situation he has. And if you can get all those things to come together then you've got a decent chance of finding financing. So it's it's a little bit of a challenge it does take some work I'll that acreage is a little harder than a lot first thing. But I take what you can do if you wanna give me a call Monday. shoot me an email I might be able to. He'll be out in that regard. My email is asking JD at county bank mortgage dot com. Or just call 33 when her room number and all the guys try to help you out Monday if you want to. I'm here right thanks Chris appreciate Kolb let's go over to late in ball and Marines reportedly help orient. I'm Ariel don't get it. I've talked to somebody did had. Had are talking about the U Yeah I bet. Well it's. Do you is is kind of the as as I'll the national mortgage beneath. Let these explain that as it is well what we refer to it the cup was is basically a Fannie Program which means. It's a government that was created. For the purpose may be someone who is upside down in their house in terms of Could be that the radio a 100000 house on north eighties you know that kind of thing. It's depreciated since she bought it they're also some other parameters that that they set out to. help people take advantage of the lower rates. That may be a little outside the box on typical conventional underwriting. Standards yes a little bit easier to qualify for two From a appraisal process standpoint that's right and in some cases it's it's really the easiest way to go when you're doing a and a. And you may or may not need it to you reached up plus is a college just a Fannie Mae was. You know sometimes it fits into that bucket even if it it really doesn't need to. But does kind of a deep question that we're trying to just I don't customize mortgage solutions that's right death yeah. So anyway I tell me what's your situation neat looking What generate any pain male. Well we're at four point 75 mile thirty years but the problem is. The value of the market in our area ball but my bit to keep from having to pay me in my insurance yet. I mean I've made it Gloria. Not quite know what you hear it when that happened. Not good luck with that that's right yeah here's what I tell you late. If four and three quarters on a thirty year. on the worst situation that I've ever to yea my honesty on Fannie Mae heart program. You would probably be in the low to mid fours anyway so. Yeah I'll tell you I'd be glad you blow by having your pretty decent shape. Okay I thought I thanks a lot I was overdue Christine were able to Christie aria. I'm a question he an Find that you ask yeah I don't know that we said that but. It's a heck. Yeah that oh yeah that's a personal business yeah. Next up to market and what's your question. I met and that understand. What you're saying it will actually around I can't really don't have that works for all yeah. Yeah yeah it. Eat meat and it can block the. I have to say well yeah and he's a great it's a great question and we do have the numbers there I mean actually I guess in. I guess let's see September October and hardcore hardcore third quarter. And most of the fourth quarter we have been over what we did. Last year significantly significantly. But we have one but we have not made. What we lost in the beginning of the year so that we attribute to the the tax credits the previous year's tax credit but we actually have the numbers at the end. I guess we'll see. In the Greenville market we were up in the number of sales. But the for the moment for the month month nevermind. You know and the state was six point 6%. For number of sales for the month of November. In why can't confirm what you said JD and I have a little wager at the beginning of the year whether we would be up or down for the year as they It's up I am I thought be bigger again sort of on this but we do see an improvement right nine now and we Syria and inventory turn in the short term and we just hope and optimism for next year. In fact I'm gonna make the same wager which is there will be up next year about one or two units into probably gonna agree with me but here's than that having Chris Christie. We we are going to be for the year in terms of the number transactions. What she's singing in the market is true it's. It's about 60% of what it was in seven yet. But the out on the trend is good it's yeah it is. What script you're. Thinking have I there aren't great columnist and he's got a little more. They ask a safety got a question about buying selling anything to do with a real estate big of answering this morning. 866. For 147553. Or 232 WORD. Good morning Brad how are you curious I don't mean a boxer chopped You know the national border retailers. Since. For the last five years have been lying to us concerning. The numbers sales and closes community here and yeah like other fairway been screaming about for years. You know Joseph reconnect Al. You know with Hal and jittery over beat cavity so that they that's right you know every GE. That was for close on I take care as a fail. Yet that's an exit a national level now we don't we argue that locally and then he and in this day wee hours we know you we now let's turn into Gibson's. But they're but the numbers that the CDC. Report a little. I'm on Fox News national or international. That's what they're getting their numbers. Oh yeah and we we often talk about how they. Like to put upon it's the end even on a situation that we know because I'm not I remembered now sitting here in 2007. When it when it all happened. And listening to them talk about. We get about six months of this we get about nine minutes I guess and I just have so you know tomorrow never came. And you know I I I agree we hear a lot of positives the end. you know what safe at home or sitting at eight. It's a yeah thinking person yeah I was gonna pursue it saying yeah 17%. Or I don't think Hillary are you Floridians. I don't. Yeah my brother does do what you do what you have here. Well it business they're. Get the small business owners with dash an yeah. say is Brad if you if you email. Ask JD accounting rate mortgage dot com I've got some interesting. Videos that liked to seen Steve speak and a Fox News and NBC and ABC in the rescue out. About how misinformation. Not so much on the real estate sat on the mortgage side as well. It is amazing how often that they'll put something now on the news. And it could be totally a 180 pounds and accurately as completely accurate sense that we when you yeah we're mean if you look since I was seven they'd foreclose on holes over three and a half million homes that that they're carrying a single. Yes yanks is ridiculous so that you know when. You know you start game started. To get excited over nothing. Well and and understand you know we're talking about the local market here which is actually counted inside the MLS that doesn't count those sales. And so we say it is improving the numbers that we're talking about and statewide South Carolina are six point 6% for the year and those tree to. Arm's length transactions that are counted inside the MLS so that's a little bit different but I certain I understand your outrage with regard to have to the next pitcher. I would tell you guys did It out loud and clear sir I understand that the when they read one article one place they know you're telling And I absolutely Melissa we appreciate the call I and I say went well let's let's go over to John anger evil good morning about three minutes. Yeah and its mobile home and land. Leo oh. Okay solo. Okay sewage just the mobile home system and they're not tied together. There are very few lenders in this market that you know. those. And so it's it's a tough play for us and the only folks that I'm aware of that it has to be tied together. But I would certainly not encourage you to do that I mean 12% yes that's compared to what's going on in the market. But when you look at the fact that it's on the title in the mobile home not. Owned the you know on the land to DC you don't really heavily and risk that's really not a bad interest rates play. On one other recommendation I would have is is credit unions often times you'll find the credit union. Kind of good to go over you know the Charleston trying to market in these November numbers November over November believe. Excuse arming these are the year today right right and nine in Charleston. The try to marketplace we've had 8431. Sales which is up four point 4%. For the year which is a nice that's a nice And then the median home price stands that 1816. Which is a 3.3 percent decline a over last year. Bomb in the coastal Carolinas which is that myrtle between They've had a 6900 sales which is a 4% increase. With a median home price of 1395. 85 which is down about 7%. Agreeable. 6153. Which is they don't 3% for the year prank but we see positive trending right now. And the median home price stands at 140 so. You know those numbers are are mixed but for mistake statewide perspective they're looking good to look at. Listen we do have John on the phone let's go over to John good morning John what we do for. I'm gonna question for sure just to get about winning you have repayment schedule we have already it's not gonna do it some reading about. Interest rates in the future the very near future yes. And what I was reading In debating that we could be looking at interest rates maybe two or three times what they are. Today in this little as two to three years. Yeah that's out I would certainly agree with that. You know at some point. We are going to get into. And inflationary situation cycle and when we get into that inflationary cycle the rates are gonna Begin to rise. And we've often said only show you know the only way you know where the bottom is turn around and look behind you and see it. And you know we think rates this this week actually they got back down to the fifty year. Lose the end we feel like you know. While it seems like normal we think when we look back on 56 years from now we're gonna say while that was a blip on the or you can get. Yeah and bit and hand in hand with that was the also the ball possibly. Home prices would. Woman even further in response to the rise in interest rates. Well you know NSA that's a very interesting it's a great discussion and we petted on the show before the question is. You know you have different buckets of home she had the first time home buyer. And then you have the move up home buyer and then you have the trophy home home buyer and then you have the second the investors in the second home market. And what we think it's gonna impact later on is that move up home buyer. The person to is got a 4% rate today. All their home and then they've they're really need that extra bedroom and if rates are a that's going to be a lot to swallowed about say a 100000 dollars more house but also be in a situation where. The rate is now double which are playing and so were really concerned about that moving forward. On the question is the values returned so that you Michael profit on the house for sale in the make up for. Yeah and historically. Real estate has benefited from that inflationary cycle yes the value of the property yeah there's inherent value in an existing mortgage. Then that may suppress the main and the we're we're just. These are hypotheticals were speculating nobody knows but clearly there's some pent up demand in the market. That. Day when it sent at least in the short term we're probably gonna see some improvement inventory is that I am. The foreclosures that look like they're gonna go away in any time and so we don't expect that to happen. Next year or so. But but to you're probably right. Well I don't think I don't think prices will plummet just don't think you'll see that they return to the level of Given you're not gonna say these 81012%. Gains a year I mean we're not not longer lever gangs problem. Hey thanks John great question I mean that's inaugural ball alcohol she you could talk a whole show about a writes what's gonna happen in the future activity. Inflation. Pain and how can change well you know you you look at what's happened. With the government involvement in you look at some of the things that they've done. And often times what what you get out of it did you wish u.'s future demand today to prop the market up look at the tax credit that's what the tax credit they had. And if you look at our results when our entitlement the upstate market. That clearly shows through that we did not get people to buy February and march of last year because. Of the that the used up demand already that same thing with low interest rates when interest rates Begin to rise and the affordability. Yeah I know Alex Alex is looking at that that school district is dropped it's unbelievable I love it that's where my kids go through. Let's jump every candidate Charleston to given what we do. We have Harry on a fantastic. Just trying to get some information from you got charm being in Charleston and got a allow them that I quote without all three years ago again and it's still it's eighteen five. again. Ridiculously. Yes there is an from hearing investment or what type of properties now it's my primary home and arm problem was it's a Jumbo and why it started earning less than. I was making. Before that I'm So calm and got a big job now mixing a lot more than I was. still archer on qualifying. They did the thing. Lower the income that you have now is a W two commissions what kind of income is it. I mean I've got I've got my own business and countries serviced and I got I'm working for the government subcontractor. Yet that the best thing to do in that situation is to list its pre qualify you. We if we don't charge anything for that it's a real quick process where you give us the application data. And let us just run the numbers and see whether you qualify are not. The Jumbo market has started to return we've got some really good. Army interest rates in the markets in the threes. Which are unbelievable and then. You know mid two. Mid fours I'd say for the fixed products the racer. You know you pitcher rate in half and you should at least try and it won't cost you anything Deluca Kevin if you don't qualify the you can get on the task to qualify yeah we confirms this yet you need to take a look at your situation. To see where you are and where you need to get yet because I'm gonna that's we've done that to where we say look. You know the only being get this commission income for this amount of time you gonna need to be here. And it won't put you in our database and then when it comes that Tom we'll get back in to watch here's here's what you need to do. Senate sent an email to ask JD. That county bank mortgage dot com and just telling look and doing but Jumbo refi and the Charleston market. And then he'll he'll shoot you some information that he only and won't take a look at it won't cost you thing the look but you might be able to get an interest in half. Is worth a look Thanksgiving great question well let's jump over to a insensitive morning Didn't ordinary Saturday fantastic what can we do for. From what I'm hearing you got a loan originators is that right. Yet Keith is actually girls think he's a real estate guy he already presents only buyers but JD and I do mortgages that's right what question is. Does your organization. Do mortgages. On property that the quad title from the county because so close to actual closure. We sell the majority of what we sell we sell into the Fannie Mae Freddie Mac market. Got the end and unless you have done that. It yet there's a process you know you have to go through once you take title. And through attack sale now if you all the way through that process. Then the answer is yes if you have not miniatures into all codes they don't. To us being able to get title insurance on the property. And so it's really. Up to the title insurance company if they'll write the entitlement that will make the loans as marketable. OK well let's that was my question nominee in I was wondering if it required. title insurance I think is common term yes there and yes this probably would be the second year after the head to the first year to reclaim right they in his second year. Then the economic goes blue and of course a title and the kill me kill me that deed is is easy. that he's the county tax office all of these rich should be it will issue I have been told by. A lot of people that mortgage companies and touch a piece of property that has that quite. Kitty what I've got to. Are and not since the bill I've got to Greenville county attorneys that we do the majority of our business Wales. And I'll be happy to sit down and have them look at it. So if you wanna shoot me the address of the property and email to send it to ask JD. And county bank mortgage dot com and just say you know tell the story tax here's the property addressed I'll get one of them the look at it now we know you back if we get title insurance on it that we can do alone moment. Well the best thing for me to do based on your TV news is that common with. Most loan originators if you can get lawyers title. And if you can get lenders title a very common. Yet didn't get lenders title insurance than you generally get to get. OK it's all his others go to the attorney fluid the insurance and I guess that's about over obviously. That'll be fine and if you need a referral for one here in town I'll be happy to TV later Monday thank you Chief. 01/21/2012

Welcome to meet the professionals news radio WOR dees weekly program devoted upstate business I'm Fred Sanders. And my guest today is attorney Nicole Barton from upstate law group. Located in the historical Wyatt house and easily. Up first nickel to me about the White House. Sure the White House is an historical building in easily as you said it was a former residents I believe that one of the founders of easily. It has and now been turned into a business house at the houses three businesses. Our office steps dateline group that also has a financial planners Robin LLC. It has upstate but keeping intact services to all three businesses under one roof it is yes three separate businesses on the same location all but. Did those businesses do have some connection with each other I would imagine sometimes you refer clients to them and and they refer clients to do we can help them so people can actually coming in the White House and never have to people. Rate basic and they can get a lot of their needs and services all in one place now you're an attorney tell me a little bit about you. I want to law school the university of south Carolina school graduated in 2010 I joined a state law group last September. I'm originally from Ohio and moved down here for law school and Thelma with the state and and stuck around and what town you live in. of Malden and how long have you been practicing law with the look I started in September last this year. And what what are you like always like this that's what you like best about being hole there. I really enjoy. Meeting Different clients in and working with them on a daily basis understanding you know what what they're going through and how well we can Kind of fix their problems and help with the political process and what kind of laud do you. Generally a wide range of things and I do a lot of female I work with some estate planning and probate and and kind of work with the other attorneys and in our office on whatever they need helpless. All right now let's have in just a sort of a general. Background of the upstate law group small firm located in the easily it was founded in September of 2008 by candy term Fuller and They're both still with the office they too graduated from the university of south Carolina school aplomb and they have worked together. At a at a different firm before opening their own firm. And I'm the third attorney we have three attorneys and it's a small step off. And personal service and very personal service yes. And that and as far as the firm rhetorical bit about the kind of law that you practice. And general I mean what what is the range of the other attorneys and an all all the different things that you do. And we handled both transactional and litigation matters candy works a lot on the litigation side and trade has lot of the transactional matter you know you. They do the litigation side mean. Of course that's the civil suits and things like that I also criminal law. We don't we don't do we focused primarily on civil law and we do a lot of injury employment law we do allow its includes divorce adoptions. Custody issues. We do probate we do real estate close things we do. Drafting of wills trusts other documents that you may need in your state planning process. And out of someone talked to somebody in your office about legal means. We'll turn initial consultation with an attorney for our office that's a thirty minute meeting for fifty dollars. At that time the client can come in and meet with an attorney and kind of discussed the situation and their legal needs and just the facts surrounding you know their problem at the time. We'll sit down with them and kind of review the situation and see if it's something that we can help them out with a there's actually legal cause of action. You know in their problem and if it's something that we may be able to pursue on their behalf. Well maybe advise them on where they can go mountain after meeting with us it's not something that we can help homeless. Sometimes console come in just to discuss the situation alert to review document and we're happy to do that with the miceli don't need full honor presentation. And if they're asking about something that your law firm really doesn't do for instance we mention criminal law. do you have lawyers that you can refer them to. Absolutely will refer them to somebody that you know we know and trust and would recommend to our family and friends gimme a bit more background on the other attorneys and you were firm and so then went University of South Carolina law school to yes there actually part law schools they were classmates while they were there candy is originally from Anderson says she is Dave Miller in the area and and the people around here and has been a resident for most of her life trim it to South Carolina went to law school and the result in currently resides in talent and do you practice law. In Kenny too we do with practicing look any Pickens Kenny Anderson county a penny count mean just about everywhere in the upstate that our clients yes and and when a client hires you. What can they expect when you represent them. We understand each person's legal situation is unique and used that land the most important and stressful situations going on for them at the time. We take its time to listen to this specific facts of each case and it's our clients and discuss their legal options with them. Well certainly worked tenaciously to achieve the goals that they sent out for themselves. Certainly try to strive to provide an objective view and advice an aggressive representation to our clients at all stages and we China approach it not only. As the most aggressive approach for them vote. What realistically is the best approach for them as well. NB realistically decline I think is very important is I know probably a lot of people come in and I hope and I wanna sue somebody for fifteen billion dollars in. Have to say well I'd probably end or. Well that's certainly A lot of cases never even make it in front of a Jerry parties may work out a satisfactory agreement between themselves they'll go through mediation and try to resolve all the issues to for actually going to a child. we certainly help our clients and try to reach an agreement that is favorable to them but if that can be done and we have litigators and our office ready to proceed to trial that's the next step. We encouraged our clients pursue the course of action that is most favorable to them and sometimes it's a settlement and sometimes it's gone in front of a judge injury the attorneys in our office are really just. Hardworking down to earth people who might enjoy helping people to the legal process. We do this because we enjoy our jobs in the enjoy the clients that we work with we often relate to our clients' situations because we've experienced something similar in our lives and the lives of our friends and family. Now another business at the White House is Robin broom LLC now Robin as a financial planner. He is and he has been working in a financial profession since about 1988. He actually joined the field after meeting with the financial advisor about his own financial needs analysts came very interested in the area and and wanted to pursued as a career. Robin founded Robin broom LLC and created a Smart lifestyle and what is the Smart lifestyle call. This lifestyle is the approach that Robin takes to his financial coaching advising it stands for soundness maturity action restoration and training. He tries to incorporate these ideas in GE's financial plan that he treats. What kind of an approach does Robin take to his clients. You really focuses on building relationships with his clients and relies on them to share their experiences with family and friends. He holds meetings every month to build on those relationships and really ties to it while his clients with his services and is medications. And he he says that people only care how much she knows until he shows them how much she cares about their individual situation. And from a financial planning the last few what are you feel sets Robin apart from other professionals. You know what what is he most passionate about. But Robin is most passion about that he has been in just about every situation that his client sitting across the table from him have been and in he really understands or situations when they're hurting are sharing their excitement he conceal it from them. You know he's told me that he feels like his personal situations have really allowed to under is allowed him to understand the needs of his clients. And it lately first meets at this clients who focuses on 24 different areas of their lives to determine what their financial needs are before even talks about products with them. didn't get to know the clients look clients get to know him to make sure that they have a chemistry to work together. Clans are really make big decisions that impact their lives in the work with Robin and he wants to make sure that they're comfortable working with them. And Robin has a website it's the Smart lifestyle. Dot com. He says yes the Smart lifestyle dot com is a lot of additional information on there and resources that are available clients are people who are just trying to get more information. About financial plan what are some of the key areas that revenues is to create the most value for the clients that he works with. Most important keys that are Robin uses this to sit down the client the first interview and determine what it is that keep the clients up at night when of their problems right now the in to see him about. You know what the bothers them the most they try to work on those issues it could be something like they're going to outlive their money. Our could be that they're worried about their taxes it can be that they're concerned about their savings in what areas that they can improve on. It NBA you know what if something happened to them today with their state be settled how they want it. He tries to help clients think about how to react to unexpected circumstances that will we'll have an effect on their financial situation. And those are some of the main at the main issues that he tries to address at this clients at first meeting. Take a short break will be back will be talking with Nicole Thornton she's from the upstate law group. Which is in the White House and also in the White House broom LLC financial planning and of course that's what we're talking about right now we're gonna talk about Robin broom. Coming up after the break you can reach. Nicole and you could also. Be connected to Robin broom by calling Nicole. And for telephone number is 8553114. That's 8553114. And web addresses of state law group dot com and again. The the web address for a is the Smart lifestyle dot com. We will be right back after this short break. Welcome back to meet the professionals our guest today is attorney Nicole Thornton from upstate law group located in the historic quiet house in easily along with two other business of course right now. We're talking about Robin broom LLC and what's the other business upstate book keeping intact service OK now let's talk about Robinson. When somebody meets him for the first time as he knows he can help after and he determine if they'll benefit from his financial assistance. Plus we've discussed note upfront he likes to get to know his clients and and talk to them and determine what is important to them. Learn about their failing situation what makes them tick. Basically ever on that he sits down with this going to be a candidate is just a matter of determining what particular areas that they need assistance with their financial situation. Robbins gaullist help clients whatever they need at that point whether it's starting from scratch on a new tweaking an existing plan. It's not really a matter of in my candidate it's a matter determining in what area do I need help. And what can somebody expect to experience with a rob and his staff and his firm. All go to Robin broom I'll seed they can expect to come into his office kind of get to know his staff see how the office works. And the first and for the first meeting is going to be just an information on meeting with them to really. You know it's no it to others see it let the situation is. But time McClain comes in for a second appointment they're gonna come and an expectation of sharing with him the information needed to actually develop a financial plan. At this point Robin is usually able to determine if his clients will need the assistance or advice of any of the other professionals in the building. If the client wants to meet with an accountant or an attorney Robin or for them to us the upstate bookkeeping and tax service. Finally coming with his clients for a third time to actually implement the best financial plan for the up when their life. He usually provides them with ways of keeping in touch with his office throughout the year after they've actually developed the plan. He provides them with set an email you know website newsletters he just continues to communicate with the client to keep in touch and to make sure that their financial plan is still up to date. He also meets with all of his clients at least once a year under review of financial plan and discuss any changes that may have happened in the financial community. When ask additional would your offices your law offices and and business and the historical home. Does that give the atmosphere. In your office of more homey kind of laid back for an I think it probably does mean our offices are old bedrooms at it he can still see some of the original molding in the house so it it is that it's probably a little bit. More comfortable people to come in there and meet with us and our office. And what are some of the resources and tools Robin provides to its clients to stay up to date to get the answers that they need. Let me discuss he does have his website Debbie Debbie Debbie you dot the Smart lifestyle dot com. And on their usually posts here and different third party papers that may pertain to the economy today. He has informational videos and ideas of the workshops that he does. He also keeps a blog and website that updates with new information and changes in the financial industry. Now we touched on this a little bit but there's no doubt that networking is a must when it comes to solving certain needs for clients working on financial plans. And as Robin interact and include other professionals to meet the of his clients. None of us have all the answers so it's very convenient to have different professionals in the same building to bounce ideas around. If Robin has attacks questioned at the there's the accountant in the office that he can consult with or you can refer his clients to of state tax that is upstate tactics and bookkeeping and tax service. He has a question about the legal implications of some of his decisions and consult an attorney in our office or refer his clients to come meet with us. Sometimes he realizes that its clients' needs some legal planning as well as financial planning and he'll refer them clients to us for those as well. You know client wants to meet with several of the professionals in our building we try to coordinate our schedules have to make one trip to the office. In the end it's very convenient for them to be able to have all their legal and financial needs met in one building. And we have a great relationship between the professionals in our buildings we do monthly seminars together to kind of address. All of these services that we provide in and give information to the community about the legal financial and and tax issues out there I've had the pleasure of working with Robin and his clients and and helping them with their legal needs when they they interact their financial needs and I'm continuously impressed by the dedication he has to his clients and just how much she gets to another clients and and really cares about them and he's trying to help them develop a financial plan that works for them. And again Robin's website is the Smart lifestyle. Dot com the Smart lifestyle dot com. And colder and talk about another business that is in the White House upstate bookkeeping and tax service tell me a little bit about them what they do. But Steve but keeping intact service is owned by Shirley Karl on accountant and she worked her work focuses on services for individuals and small businesses. This are up with a family that owns a small business issue and a lot of hands on experience and firsthand knowledge of working for a small business. And she graduated with a degree in accounting and worked with small business companies for over twenty years. But of course there's a lot of other things that are going on I'm driving a car right now this from our. Our car lot and he's had the suspicion. That when the temperature this weekend draw draws down into the but was going to be 29. That my battery is on this car's going to be going. Alone won't. It's been fine. But it seems like on this some of these colder mornings it's just not. Acting like it's really all there so I'm gonna get tested out now my hat but battery in court today I don't want to be stuck. Not being able to drying agents my Chris I could get it going on off on Mexico but. United leads this. Into another problem and that is that the what people think that being just jumped her car off. And drive it and to recharge the battery well it will. But. With a tremendous strain on your Automator north Nader is not a battery charger. And a battery maintain year. Okay so it maintains a voltage on a better but it doesn't charge it will charge a dead battery. By Massa mini camps try out of adult they're trying to get that battery charged up. That that you could blow open all the in the process. A battery. Failing and that matter farrakhan's AME ties to come in what they need is a battery and an alternate how could be volt well. Probably because you've jump in this thing often you've been trying to get by and you know. That would that'll battery for a couple weeks here you've been used in adults and later as a battery charger and it's not what was designed to be. So on. We have fully charged battery to have a good electrical system particularly on these late model vehicles anyway. Spark no lines are completely loaded and a first will be John. On line. One in Greenville to Subaru Forester John. Pay Elliott you know we don't get very many consumers. Well. What are you going in from the recent of that. The assistant are. A strange group of saint population. space they love their car but imperial lovely lovely card. A lot my car industry years just a general question Gloria. My car is like thing you know I have to replace things every now again at ten years but. Come and done everything else wanted to do and in the sports and stuff and But come know. should attend. You know or to wisdom you view us shell out everybody. But for your typical car owner. You know who and what stage in the game. Immediately about replacing cars the fact that it might just break down. At what point home because these. Police say hey you know it's time to time. IndyCar Geddes cart whatever I'll have a twelve year old Silverado pickup truck that he's on farm and I was just curious what your thoughts world Well you know that that's uninteresting question because we you know when is when is enough enough okay is your question really is up and down. I would say. to within a part of the country where generally speaking our cars are not gonna rust and rockaway. You know they're gonna they're going to be OK the paint might fade over the years. You know whatever might happen body structure in and I kind of thing but underneath the car structurally framed that not gonna have a problem with that stuff. And by the way discern a little. Side here real quick the reason we don't get very many questions on the show is because. You have the best car hers may need out there you can you can put a up against the Honda or Toyota any day of the week as far as I'm concerned. Yeah I mean they're just wonderful vehicles and they're so versatile. Anyway so move on to your question but I think the the answer is. What was the overall condition of the car. And what's it worth to you. This not you know people isn't as same looking construct plus 12100 bucks a picture why wouldn't put twelve or our snack cart cars are worth twelve whereabouts. The say well okay we'll if you found that chorus are in room. It all fixed separating go with this 12100 dollars or to spend on it and it was for sale for 12100 hours would you buy it. And then most of us say double. Think so. People get kind of mixed up on the logic of when did we went to say when you know when human stopped working on the score. If it's if it's reliable vehicle. And it's a reliable brand. And you know you know the history this vehicle even drive and for the last whatever hundred miles thousand miles is go on and what does it have on by the way. Got 130 thought felt that's nothing. Era can help her favorite seniors driving a 130 up now is not that bad. No and so how much you spend in maintenance and amid the non maintenance not changed new oil and stuff like that but just repair work on that coroner 35000 miles. At all the Nader's bad. He had gas skid. Transmissions. I mean that that kind of stuff but let's talk about brakes and tires and tune ups and more you gotta do that to any Oreo. There about the big stop the that broke out how much money be spent. Well I have all those records I mean that record but I actually that exact number this probably. I'm actually couple thousand dollars outrage over two years. Thanks so that's hours a year of so we break it down by the month. And we have. What does that. Eighteen hour in the C. Death by eighteen hours a month business. Yeah there says that seventeen to sixteen hours a month yeah he black new car for sixteen hours a month. Know it's numbers yes. You know I'm I'm also not try to make statement I mean yeah he sure got callers to make a statement not to swallowed up dependable car on clean and but doesn't what I ask it to do ring gives me can backing its tomato playing. And we are and we started this conversation by you tell me your you have that car. Yeah so the question really becomes becomes an answer B is went becomes unreliable. You know consistently on reliable. It is going to be a point at which you're not gonna wanna throw good money after bad. But you know if that engine blew up in this thing. He he might have to make a choice is whether or not you're gonna fix that I would say fix it but motor and keep on driving. They're being paid out there of bell Certain parts. Turning over like Honda. Does the owner keep it separate years and salad or does he keep it year ended early keep the careers are. And that may be a reflection of their holes like like finances in enemy pay for outright or eighty. The least bit or whatever but it. Com parties being data out there that com. I'm sure the you know. The government could collect flawless data in the net pay a lot of people that do that too you know and we really appreciate that. But here's here's the data that matters okay. The day is matters is. car reliable TM and kind of thing but I'll tell right now. That the last three or four years with the economy. Most people are holding on to their vehicles. And they are piling on the miles. And they are finding out. The cars are going the distance. Now mean there are people having their heads you know the seventies and eighties in American. And down. He those cars back then that they had a 10050000. Miles on them you better be looking for great site you know. What course today quarter million miles mean they'll do it no problem any car care whose artists they'll go quarter million models. You saw it oh god did the maintenance than FF. And and that's cheaper than anything else you could possibly do. Now you get the point where you needed a second the second car in the family or maybe one hand this down to a son or daughter is getting her license you know. It's always there to do that with. Yeah that's well thank you and I mean it it's Mariam. Did an update on the the car and then and just. You know basically make sure all systems are working well so for. And and handed down to the next generation. Bearden I would feel comfortable knowing that I gave them a dependable car and wouldn't have to worry about them breaking down asylum road. And it was free. But. Here's one thing you can do and and and help put a little plug in for our company for second. One of the things is you can do is we do something called a it's become an annual inspection of the vehicle right now we call north three for free special. What that is is keep you come in and for 99 dollars. You get your car checked it. I don't know a hundred different. Points checked on the cars and they're gonna look at everything they're gonna measure the thickness of the brake pads. They're going to measure did what was left in the tires you give you all those measurements are gonna load test of battery of those tests. Pressure tests to cooling system thing to check everything from the front bumper to the back bumper okay. And then and then if there's a list of things that that are coming up for need to be done right now let's say what that is. And while while were underneath of it we're gonna go ahead and change oil we're gonna do that for free. Okay and then when you walk out the door to pay this tonight and I'm Bucs were gonna give you three more world changes absolutely for. So we're giving you like 350 dollars worth of value when you add up all the stuff that were into the car for 99 books. And and then you get to walk out the door and say now I know exactly. Where my car stands. What the future is this vehicle and what and what plans I can make. Okay. Great and you walk out the door and all you've done has been spent the 99 bucks and you got for free changes and you go down the street car and you've got the editorial change you can use on any car. In the family or whatever he's the gradual changes. And by the way do changes that come with are. Thirty point. Essential systems upon inspection anyway so. Thanks so I'm dale listen can now appreciate that I'm minority daycare. Remark about I'm gonna give break. And we're doing that right now we are back don't go six. bright sunshine during Saturday afternoon feeling all right 55 Little League park yep that'd be cool in the shade but nice in the sunshine.
